I suspect you are being overly modest in disparaging your Mac hardware
skills.  These machines are confusing (IMHO) and change at the whim of the
Mac HW EEs, without widespread documentation. 

The fellow who does know how to do Macs and sky charts on the Mac is Joe
Longo, who does the Stars&Scopes software for the LX200 ... he listens in
on this list, so he may respond ... or you may try to engage him in this
project.  I have spoken to him in the past, and he has been very helpful. 
Plus he knows the Mac serial interface very well.
