Re: ATM Best lap-making methods
I know some will disagree with me on this, but I just made my first pitch
lap about 5 days ago, and it went fine (second pour round). I used the
soldering Iron technique. I does leave some rough edges to the facets, but
these come out after a while cold pressing. Or I suppose one could paint
on some hot pitch and warm press it. I would advocate taking the outside
5mm or so off the lap as I found it very difficult to get the mirror
exactly center over center when pressing. If you don't get it exactly
right then you end up with a little ridge at one side of the tool. If the
tool is slightly smaller then there is more marign for error.

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice on my lap. I did my first spell
of polishing this morning (20min or so) and The center is looking polished
already. I know it will take a good 6-7 hours to polish properly out to
the edge, but it is still very heartening to see it working!
Thanks for the advice, and I hope that my bit helps you 'et'.
