ATM Pitch lap question!

Hi all, and thanx to all that have answered my previous questions.

I am having a little trouble polishing. I have 8" mirro (WB kit)
and am using a homemade elgin type grinding machine.

I use tile on plywood tool for grinding, and I didn't want to spoil
that if I would have to go back to fine grinding after I started
polishing so I poured the pitch on a flat plywood tool. Was that
a bad idea ????

The problem is that the mirror always looks grey after each polishing
spell. I can not figure out why that is. It looks to me that it is
a thin film of CeO that I cant wash off. I can though reduce much
if I polish for 1-2min with lots of water before I take the mirror
and clean it and try to test it !!!!

Thanx in advance...
