Lap making seems to be a religious issue.  _THE_ best method is the one that
_you_ believe works best.

On the cookie cutter idea:

Keep in mind that the space between the facets tends to close up when the
facets flow while polishing, and trouble (zoning, most likely) is sure to
follow if the channels are not opened when this happens.  Square facets are
probably easier to trim when needed than round, "Niklaus", or other oddball
shapes.
