I read a while back that an 'easy' way to make ronchi screens was to construct
a rectangular frame using fine pitch all-thread for 2 opposing sides. You then
wind fine wire around these 2 edges, glue into place, & cut off all the
wire from one side, ending up with alternate wires and spaces. Might work on a
larger scale for objective gratings also.
