Thats why I now use rigid vains (.010" to .0125") thick. 
They are under no tension so no tube distortion. I have had
problems with Sonotube and fiberglass tubes distort after time
with tension spider vains. Steve is correct in that you need
a very stiff ring around the tube to tension the vains. As for 
me it is not worth the trouble to make those thin vains work well.
