Yes... At night atop Kitt Peak it's not unusual to see your own shadow and I'd guess that's the case still at many observatories. Even at low elevations (< 2000 ft) star shadows are observable out west in certain areas.

As a Moon Shadow is common, I have only heard stories of Dark Sky's and a shadow produced by the photon's of the Milky Way alone...That's Dark!!! Russ
