Oooh.  I could go down to the local surf shop and get some Sex Wax 
(tm).

But I did think of something else after it was too late: before 
polishing, I could have shellacked the edge.  Shellac sticks to 
anything, is very durable, and dissolves in alcohol.  So when all 
done I could've removed the shellac and the edge would've been as 
pretty as ever.

But: too late now.  Owell.
