Re: [ATM] Walking around the barrel
I too hae a bad back and the walking around a stand, especially a
low one, hurts my back.
When I worked on the Dobsonian mirror back some years ago at
RTMC, tye did it on a bench with the glass on the bench and found
that to be fairly nice. I could put weight on the glass and do a
good amouint of pushing and the only problem was lifting uqickly
and turning the tool.
At home, I have a large chunk of steel on a lazy susan bearing
and that sits on the vanity table in my bathroom right next to
the sink and I sit on the toilet (lid down!) and do my grinding
there. The heights do preclude a lot of pressure on the glass
which is good when it comes to fine grinding and figuring as the
glass is almost at shoulder level. Just a quick kick with my
forearm turns the "barrel" and allows the strokes to be nicely
random. Quirky and meke do but it does work.
