[ATM] Walking around the barrel

The comments on the barrel stand have hit close to home. You don't really need a "stand" at all! I've been bothered with a bad back since I was a teenager (40 some years ago) and could never tolerate standing and walking around the barrel, so I built a sitdown "stand." The construction is mainly of 2x4s and some plywood. There is a turn table at about elbow height (when sitting) and in lieu of walking around the barrel I would give the tool a rather large turn in one direction and a smaller turn of both the tool and the mirror in the other direction and continue on with the wet. It worked well and I finished an 8" pyrex mirror that turned out to my satisfaction. I have just finished a grinding machine (a M-O-M) and am planning a 10 inch classical cassegrainian. The secondary will have to be done by hand and my "stand" will again see use.
