I don't believe you Richard, stretching wires in glass tubes indeed.  

Now if you scanned the section and posted it so that the members of the this forum could review and discuss the merits and techniques thus meeting the requirements of the Copyright Act of 1976, then I would believe you.  Maybe I should just break down and buy the book.

The other great thing about 10u ish is that machined metal mirrors will work.  And there are other detectors too.  Google IR, infrared, astronomy, ...  Yes I used the A word.

Arrays would be more difficult.
