So, can we assume that you are talking about a 12.5"?
Two options
1) Grind down the back. Since it would take forever
to do this manually, you would need to find someone
with a Blanchard rotary grinder to do this, and it
would still take a long time, Newport would probably
be able to do this, maybe 2 hours shop time.
2) As Dominic noted, some way to cut it off, then
grind the back flat. Very time consuming.
#1 I believe would definitely require refiguring of
your glass, as even if properly annealed, with that
much glass coming off, I would expect the figure to
'spring'
#2 might be less stressfull, but still with that much
material being cut off, I would think it would still
spring.
But, in the world of optics, you never know....
