David,

You may have finally answered the question we often
see.  How thin is too thin.  Now we know the answer
is, If a cat can break it, it is too thin.

I didn't break it nor did the post but that darn
cat...  Darn I was was hoping to measure it once more
after you had it "figured out". 

Concerning the Fused Quartz.  I don't think I would
agree to grinding just for the fun of it.
