I also agree with Mike, if the goal is to produce "A" mirror for a telescope (as
opposed to tinkering with the process as a means of enjoyment), The fastest way
to hog "A" mirror is with a pipe flange with a nipple screwed into it.
The absolute simplest / easiest / and possibly fastest way to a generated curve
is to order the blank that way from the supplier. When the blank arrives, it
blanchard ground 'flat' on the back with the front beveled and pre-generated.
Having built a mechanized curve generator, I can say with certainty that it is
fun to watch it cut the curve into a piece of glass. However, that first cut
felt more like a Gambling addiction than anything else :)
