If you were to use a floatation cell I would think that all supports should
be at the edge and of course you would want the blank to have no wedge. 

Now there comes a risk of breaking the blank if too much force is applied.
How much risk depends on diameter and how thin.  

Carpet on a good strong flat surface and frequent rotation of the disk
relative to the carpet sounds much better to me.
