Re: [ATM] 4-1/4" Mirror Suggestions and Thoughts Wanted
Hi Gil,
Tell your daughter, she did a wonderful job!, and thnx for sharing it
with us, Im sure you and her, have gotten lots of Incredible evenings
discovering the universe together!, you never know, she may be
the first person to land on Mars!, or she may discover a comet,
but she will definitely have a scope that shows many wonderful
things in the Universe!, I wish my daughters had such enthusiasm!,
but they do enjoy looking thru my scopes once-in-awhile.
Tell her Galileo became famous with a 60mm refractor!
My second scope was a "6-inch Criterion-Dynascope", which I
used for years till I discovered atming, but I put more observing hours into
that 6-incher, than all my other scopes combined!, and I still didnt
learn all there was to learn with that 6-incher!, if that was the only scope
I could have ever owned,, I would have retired a happy man!
my best to you and yours!
God bless,,
John Moore.

I love small reflectors - 3" and 4" reflectors do the
miraculous: craters on the moon, orion nebula, rings
of Saturn, and the colors of the stars. To those of
us that look through telescopes a lot, going from a 4"
to a 6" scope makes a big difference. To those that
don't - they are both about the same (I find little
difference between any two standard sizes - 8" vs 10";
10" vs 12"; etc.).
For kids, I believe it is more important to make an
attractive telescope that is easy to use. My daughter
designed the graphics (and painted) her telescope -
and frankly, it looks a lot nicer than the one's I've
painted!

I say 4.25" is a great size!
