The parallogram mounts work very well, allowing differing height
individuals to see the object without having to search for it.
Kids are usually able to see dimmer objects than adult humans and
are also more attuned to motion so it would have been natural for
her to have seen the flare first.  She may have even seen the
satellite before it started to flare.
