With this thickness of wood (5/8") I can also add biscuits to strengthen the
OTA.

Masking tape won't compress the glue joint and press the glue into the wood
further much less take up the high spots of the glue application.  You need
the stretchiness of the rubber.  The stretch wrap that Micheal is thinking
about could be used but I'd suspect that it won't really do much to compress
the joint together. Remember that the less glue that there is between the
two pieces of wood, the stronger the joint is.  You attain that by clamping
the two pieces together rather than a sparse application of the glue. Bob
