You could do a decent bird's mouth with a router in a table set
at an angle or with a tilting jig for the work but you'll end up
with the same restrictions for the angles involved.  That would
free up the saw for other work tho which will be nice.  They had
some interesting comments about using epoxies in that page.  I'd
not use them as epoxy generally doesn't get into the wood grain
like other glues do.
