Re: [ATM] Venting Holes in a solid OTA

Another variation to the bead and cove is the birdsmouth joint. It
makes it slightly easier to align the joints during glue-up. I am not
sure that it will work with wood as thin as your's, but it's worth a
look. Check out
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/06/howto/birdsmouth/index.htm for an
example. Remember that thin miter joints don't like to stay put without
something to keep them in place.

Also, you can buy a slow setting glue which I believe is called Titebond
Extend (http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=1966) which will
give you more time to assemble.

Nope!
Start by getting a large rubber band. These can be made with an old
inner tube from the tire store. Cut it into one long piece about 1" or
a little wider and as long as you can. You will probably end up with a
strip of rubber about 30' long or longer, depending upon the size of the
inner tube.
Needless to say, large truck tubes are prefered for this as they have a
lot more area to turn into a rubber strip. Once you get the rubber
strip, cut two pieces so that you can tie them into rings that are small
enough to hold the tube in shape. Now comes the fun part! Apply glue to
all of the surfaces that are going to be glued and build the tube using
the two rings of rubber to hold things in place. Then Take the rest of
the rubber strip and wrap it around the tube. Fun part is to get the
tube fully wrapped before the glue starts to setup. Carpenter white or
yellow glue tends to start setting in less than 5 minutes so you really
have to work fast. Once the rubber band is wrapped around the tube, you
can set it aside and let it cure. You can also cut some gusset pieces
that will fit at the joints inside and provide a bridge to the joint and
apply them at this time. If you plan on them, you will want to have
something to blow up a bit inside the tube to hold them in place. Don't
blow up the inside too much or you will force the main joints apart! Bob
