Another way to do boards for an optical tube would be with a router 
or shaper and radius bits called "Large Diameter Flute and 
Bead"  "Canoe" or "Bead and Cove" bits.  Just cut once and any 
variation will be in the diameter of the tube.  No need to adjust angles.

Regarding fans, Rube Goldberg would not be impressed with all this 
fuss about where to mount a single fan when there is an excuse for 
two fans and an air filter.  You want clean air flowing both down the 
tube over the mirror and out the top of the tube so mount a larger 
filtered supply fan with a diffuser in the side of the tube and a 
smaller exhaust fan behind the mirror.  A rubber diaphragm would make 
a good fan mount.

I believe England has a Rube Goldberg counterpart and everyone in 
Australia and New Zealand is proud of their gadgets.
