[ATM] Commercial-Optics & handmade Optics.

Hi my friends,

I for one enjoy this forum, because it has such a variety of

view-points on our great-hobby of "atm'ing",as such all range

of topics having in some-way to do with the quality of telescopes

may be expressed, as long as they are accepted by the Moderators,of

which I have seen them[the moderators], to be very kind, and

understanding in this regard.

I for one, have owned several commercial-scopes, the worst beeing a

Coulter 10-inch optics set [NOTE; BTW, I dont wish to give the NEW-Coulter company a

bad-name,, my set was made from the Old-Coulter-company that no-longer exists]

, which I built a telescope around, and it

performed Poorley, but I wanted to see how the optics would match-up

against my own, of course there was no-comparison,,

But my point is,,

did I complain, and throw a fit,,NO,, I knew what I had purchased, and

my expectations of the quality of the optics-set was a "hit and miss"

[obviously, I happen to get a bad-set,, but thats the roll-of the dice!]

I got what I paid-for!,,so I was content. [PS,,yes I redid the optics by hand].

On the other hand I purchased a 8-inch SC. from a well-known

Schmidt-cassegrain manufacturer, and the optics performed just

barely within "Diffraction-limited" performance, again I was satisfied!,

and grateful, I got a "decent" scope, with a decent set of optics, for

a commercial "Shmidt-cassegrain", in fact I felt very-Lucky!, mine was

"difraction-limited", [were talking 4-optical surfaces here!, that were

made to diffraction-limited performance!!,, and any optical person will

point out thats not easy to-do!!]

So,, if you want High-Quality Optics at a Quality Price,,

call Mr. Royce, or Mr. Zambuto,,

They will supply you with an Optics-set, that you can be-sure of the Quality!!

OR,,

do as some do here in this forum,,

BUILD YOUR OWN !!

Then you will have an optics set, that is PRICELESS!!,

YOU made-it!!

and the people here in this Forum will give you ANY help you need!

Have fun and good Luck!

John Moore.
