Tom,

Just an FYI here.  A few guys got together to build scopes about 12 years
ago.  The sizes ranged from 6"-12.5".  The one guy that built the 6" seemed
to have a harder time grinding the mirror than with the larger sized
mirrors.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post.  I received the info that I 
needed as well as some advice.  Here is my situation-- I have two 
students who wish to build their own telescopes.  I would like for them 
to grind their own mirrors, but they don't have to if they don't want 
to-- I have already told them that they will not save any money by 
grinding their own, but they might enjoy the experience.  I would like 
to give it a try, though-- I built my first telescope almost 30 years 
ago, but I have never tried to grind a mirror.  A six inch seems to be 
the most appropriate size for what I have in mind.
