Ed,  Didn't anyone ever tell you mirror making was caveman work!!!??? 
The squeaking is when the real polishing is happening.  You did well to
get it polished to the edge in such a short time; wise to keep going for
a few more hours.  There is nothing worse than taking the first look at
the mirror on the test stand and seeing TDE, due to the edge not being
completely polished.
