Hi Ken,

I cap both ends of my 10" sonotube dob with those poly
bowl covers with the elastic closure.  They look just
like shower caps.  Actually, shower caps would work
fine, too.

The tailgate is a vestige of the early dobs that had a
plywood mirror box with a sonotube sticking out the
front.  The tailgate was the back panel of the
mirrorbox hinged to the sides, to made it easy to
remove the mirror for figuring, transport, etc.
