Re: [ATM] TriDob endring

>I was just thinking about endrings and wondering why
you shifted from a circle to a triangle in your latest
version of the 20" scope--the tridob. Is it because of
the compression forces (inward on the triangle) of the
wire spider? Does the gemometry of the triangle give
you more stability? I'm rethinking mine for a future

No, and yes.

Basically, I work with new designs for a couple of reasons: to explore
engineering of current designs and to investigate new prototypes.

A circular upper end, once it's been reduced to a ring, may not be the
most efficient engineering. The TriDob, with its 3 contact points on
the upper end for the truss assembly, best fits into a triangular upper
end, with the engineering idea that curved arcs are better reduced to
straight compression trusses.
