I read that autocolimation with a flat is a possible substitute for a star
test. I do know that Foucault once said that a flat is like an artificial
sky. According to my source, all you need is an optical flat at least the
size of the primary. Also that a quarter wave flat is good enough for
autocolimation. The flat is actually a flat mirror since it has to be
aluminized (or silvered). I suppose the flat has to have a central hole.

Has anyone in the list actually build an autocolimation tester?
