[ATM] The 15.5 Ultrathin project
Questions and comments:
Do I use a single board for the support points on the cell? Yes. I have
gotten good results doing this. I have gone to a complex glue up on the
board design, but it is essentially one board, no moving parts.
The low spot on the edge and form creation. Richard has sent me several
emails and lots of tips, though not many posted here. He recommended that
I grind the slumping form for accuracy. Later I found out that Dan Gray
also preground his forms prior to slumping. It seems to be the way to go.
I tried to reuse the form I got from Mel, (one of Dan's old forms I
think), and refigure it for a longer focal length. I ground on it for
three or four days and got very little change out of it. I don't know
what it is made of but it is mighty hard. I later made a ceramic mold out
of casting clay, (slip), and even when bisque fired I could dress and
figure the curve. That is what future molds will be made of.
I had to knock off grinding for a few days, but I hope to pick up on it
again about Wednesday.
