The end mirror was 2 meter by 2mm thick. They did grind
a base for the glass, then used pitch to secure the
slumped blank onto it.This slumped piece was ground
down to 2mm.To release the pitched glass from the base
they made a huge holding tank filled with oil that was
heated till the glass -which had "floats" attached to
it -lifted from the base.
The glass,in use,is supported by one heck of a complex
wiffle tree/accuator system.
