If you fix the microscope cover glass to the piece of thick glass
with peach than chance to break it are smaller. Later it is easy
 to separate cover glass from its support by heat.

But why microscope cover glass at all? Thickness of ground glass
screen will not go in way of determining the best focus by EP.
