Just skimming through the paper it looks like this guy is a pretty 
inexperienced optical designer. Our resident amateur designers could 
probably produce better reducer/correctors if one wants to set his mind to it.

It's not fundamentally more difficult to do a mildly hyperboloidal 
mirror. It just takes more work. An experienced mirror maker should 
be able to do it. If he's sensible he'll charge you more for it.

I agree with Vladimir that a Paul-Baker type design is well worth a look.
