Troy,
I coated my dental plaster in fibre resin a few times just to ensure it
doesnt chip/crumb, one of my recent mishaps occured apon completing my fine
grinding, I chipped the dental plaster and little crumps fell onto the
mirror surface, resulting in a lovely 4 hour regrind to get the scratches
out!
If you remake the tool you'll have to spend a few hours reshaping the
tool/mirror anyway.
MY opinion (note mine) is to seal it before grinding.
