I'd say yes, it could. But it wouldn't be as simple as being
able to approximate it directly from the appearance of diffraction pattern.
You just look at the pattern, say: that's
Pickering 6, and it tells you what the atmospheric error is.

Thank you, John. We were talking about similar topic
some time ago, remember? It's not going away yet.
It is not really complicated - very little
math there. It's probably that a couple of basic terms are
not familiar, and that can make it unclear. Will see what is
going to happen. I'd like that others step in - especially
one or two knowledgable heads. If not, maybe some other time...
