[ATM] Off-Axis Paraboloid

The most fascinating off-axis mirror I have seen is detailed in volume 2 of
William Cook's "The Best of Amateur Telescope Making Journal" (available
from Willmann-Bell -- no affiliation, blah, blah) It's a 10-inch f/10 made
from a single full-sized blank, not cut from an oversized one. The blank is
strapped into a truly astounding warping harness that allows it to be ground
and polished to a sphere. Upon its release, it springs back into the proper
asymmetrical shape. Carrying the unobstructed design to the limit, the
builder eschewed the secondary mirror in favor of a Herschelian design. One
mirror, one eyepiece, no obstruction. Now, that's really back to the
basics.
