[ATM] Linking motors to shafts
Good Evening all,
Well, finally was able to break free some time to work on my scope again, and now I'm into the land of stepper motor drives. I'd like to ask today if there is a "right" way to attach motor shafts to things like threaded rods to create a drive shaft? I have a stepper motor that has a 3/16" shaft on it (with a flat spot on it, which think makes it "keyed"?), and I'd like to attach a length of 3/8" nylon threaded rod to it. I can think of ways to do it, but I'm wondering if some ways are better than others. I've checked in the McMaster-Carr catalog, for example, and it looks like they have couplings for that sort of connection, but I haven't look to see if they have one with the bore sizes that I need (I think those are the right terms, anyway; kind of new to a lot of this). I've looked at some websites for other folks who have built drive systems using nylon threaded rods, but the pictures of the motor connections don't provide a lot of detail. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ron
