Re: [ATM] working with pitch
David,
I've used a paint stripping heat gun (on low) to do the same with no adverse
effects. However, once I get the contact I'm looking for, I scrub all the
imbedded CeO off with a 4" stainless steel wire brush. (the imbedded CeO will
form a kind of brown skin to the top of the heated pitch)
Same trick works well for conforming an old pitch lap to a new mirror. I've
also brazed a piece of copper pipe to the 'paint stripping attachment' with the
end of the pipe pinched into a tight "V" shape to re-channel the lap as needed.

Hello ATM
When I was making my full pitch lap because I believe that my mirror has
hyperbola the pouring of the pitch got to be difficult. It was stickier than
usual. I've still got some of it in my fingure nails. It didn't pour right so
the lap became uneven. So then I got the idea that I could use a hair drier to
heat the lap while I use hand pressure to docture up the lap. This idea has
worked so far. Does anybody here know if this is an exceptable technique?
David
