You do get a nice unobstructed view but that isn't that neat to have except
for the lack of diffraction spikes.  I've got an article on off-axis
newtonians and why you really don't want to try to make one.  Essentially,
you have the coma of the larger scope in a small scope.
There are other off-axis designs, others have mentioned some of them in this
thread that are basically parts of cassegrain systems.  In addition, there
is the Stevick-Paul design where 2 additional mirrors correct for the
aberrations of a parabolic mirror reflecting off of the optical axis.
