RE: [ATM] Re: Making the pitch tool

Hello all,
Melting pitch:
Put the pitch in a can, cover it with aluminium foil, and put it in
the oven at about 120 deg C. It takes along time to melt, but doesn't smell
so much.

Making the lap:
Look at www.pitchlaps.com for a mould. It makes the best lap with
little mess, you'll never do it any other way afterwards (I don't get
commission for this blurb). To avoid domestic stress, make the lap when your
co-dwellers are away.
To save rouge and mess, smear the mirror with slightly diluted washing up
liquid of your favourite brand before the first warm pressing. You can see
the progress well. Before polishing, cold press with thin rouge/water

Best wishes, Jerry

Thick. Completely cover the surface of the glass. Any exposed glass will
stick to the pitch and will make it harder to separate the lap from the
mirror. I guess the consistency of apple sauce is a fair description. You
want more polishing agent than water. Paint it on the glass surface with a
brush.

When making a pitch tool, how thick should I make the cerium oxide
solution that I use to prevent the mirror from sticking to the pitch?
