[ATM] re: Amateur Telescope Making Vols 1,2, &3
These books may be fifty years old and the articles close to 100, but I was
able to build my first 8 inch telescope from the information in them. I
ended up buying many books by some of the contributors of the articles. But
for someone starting out without any knowledge of mirror making, all you
need to know is there.
Remarkable changes have taken place over the past fifty years, but the
changes to a simple Newtonian telescope have only been through the
availability of new materials, Sonotube, CeO, ZrO and diamond discs. The
only real changes I see is a lot of plastic where there once was brass.
Newton built his first parabolized mirror over 300 years ago, maybe we
shouldn't be building them.
