David,

Jerry Hillman has already given you some good advice on the test stand and 
the Foucault article.

What you have sounds like a stationary source Foucault tester, so when you 
start using the various testing software, make sure you understand the 
difference and choose the settings for stationary rather than moving source.

Once you understand the principles from David HArbour's article, I would 
suggest downloading DIFFRACT and use it to simulate what a mirror being 
tested looks like.  It gives very realistic simulated images of the various 
mirror tests.

There are several software programs used for doing the calculations on the 
test numbers, FIGUREXP, and TEX were just mentioned on the  ATM list within 
the last two weeks.
