I knew that post would feed the list troll. ;-)  What is left out here is that
many of those methods still work, and in some respects,  haven't changed that
much for the typical amature undertaking.  I have a shelf of books and I have
learned something from each one.   OK.  We use led's now instead of 
open flames
in the Foucault tester.  We save the flames for the list and first time pitch
melters.

I made my first mirror with the help of some books and this list.  
Nicer to have
some one experienced around, but that isn't always possible.  Even IF 
the books
were nothing but a history of mistakes, that would  have its own value. 
    Most
of us enjoy the books for what they are.  A history of what has come before in
our hobby.
