[ATM] re: How hot is your scope

Jarvis:
Epoxy is used in hand lay up of boat hulls, but I haven't seen them use
epoxy in a chop gun which is the preferred method for fast lay up. A
detriment that is not widely known is that glass has an extraordinary
affinity for water in the matrix. Our Soling racing boat would weigh an
extra 900 lbs at the end of the season due to the ingress of water. Kevlar
wicks a bit if the edges are not cut cleanly. Carbon fibre does not share
this problem. I would certainly take Donald Good's advice and explore your
materials in every detail, and if you can, worm your way into shops that use
these materials and find out how they are handled and what materials they
use.
We had a hand laid up epoxy boat called a FolkBoat come loose in a storm
and for three days it pounded against the rocks. When we finally recovered
the boat we were surprised to find that it had only suffered scratches.
