Oh right!  The subdiameter tools ( especially small ones relative to the 
mirror diameter) can have substantial digging power so it is important to 
spread out the action by by the use of somewhat sweeping circular type 
strokes that spread the activity a bit and allow for good surface blending.  
Another moderating effect can be had by the use of a SOFT LAP on those small 
tools.
