[ATM] re: Can you see a laser beam where it enters a glass surface.

Yes, and only because the glass has not received a complete polish.
Prior to the use of CeO as a polishing agent ( I was going to say the good
old days) we finished with tin oxide followed by a serious polishing with
clarified rouge. Cerium Oxide is a great addition to the ATMs arsenal with
its' powerful cutting power it eliminates a great deal of time in finishing
the mirror, but, it doesn't eliminate the soft action and smooth surface of
that attained with rouge. CeO will get you close to a perfect mirror, but
not quite the surface of rouge.
If you shine you laser spot on what appears to be a perfectly
prepared plate glass you will get the same diffused amount of light like a
halo around the laser spot caused by minute imperfections in the glass
surface. A serious polishing with rouge is required to eliminate this
problem with your mirror.
As stated earlier in this thread, make sure your mirror surface is
spotlessly clean as this can give you a halo about the laser spot.
