RE: [ATM] Can you see a laser beam where it strikes a polishedsurface?

I recently polished a 12" mirror with CeO and used a 4" magnifier to focus the sun's rays on the polished surface to determine state of polish. When fully polished, the sun image could not be detected on the surface. Of course, the surface must be very clean for this to happen. Simply wiping the washed surface with anything left all sorts of particles to reflect sunlight. I had to resort to a final wash with distilled water blown off with compressed air to get the surface clean enough for the test. Even then a few particles did remain but there is a difference between particles and unpolished surface , especially near the outer mirror edge.
