RE: [ATM] turntable for grinding mirror
My table which I only use for grinding is a real hack job with a single
stationary arm. It has made life so much easier. But even using it by
hand the extra velocity added by the turing action seems to make
grinding go really fast.

Brent,
If the primary reason for turntable was avoiding barrel dance than
rotating platform will be sufficient. No motor needed. It is easier to
take care for "averaging" if tool and mirror are rotated by hand than if
one is rotated at the "mercy" of the motor. You will soon loose feeling
where you are. Every stop or change in speed of hand strokes will change
mutual relation tool-blank in unpredictable way and consequently destroy
your control over it. If you are going for motorized turntable than it
will be only small effort to add overarm (motorized or not). (In my
opinion of course.)
Vladimir.
