Re: [ATM] RE: RTV Silicone question
Hi Jule,
Thanks for the very informative message on silicone RTV. Perhaps you
can answer some other questions.
In the adhesion application, would it be worth searching out products
with less or no fumed silica? I realize that fumed silica actually
strengthens silicone, but for use as an adhesive, many measures of
strength are not so important. Peel strength is the big issue.
Do the methanol cure RTV silicones need water like the acetic acid versions?
One of the methanol cure products has been recommended as a superior
glass bonding agent. What are the pluses and minuses of these products?
Is there a way to get the water to the silicone despite bonding to
impervious materials?
When used as an adhesive, in a thin layer between two impervious
materials, what is the maximum size that one should allow in order to
let water diffuse in to effect the cure?
When bonding two impervious materials, should one wait longer than usual
before applying a load, in order to give water time to diffuse in and
the cross linking time to occur?
Will glass bond better if the surface is rough as from grinding, or
smooth? How about metals and other non metals?
Thanks,
Mark Holm
