While having the antenna away from any metal is a good thing (antennas will
react to the presence of other pieces of metal about them), you can setup
the antenna in your room or in the attic as desired.
Also, an antenna may be nothing more than a wire from the house to a nearby
tree.  Use non-metallic string at the ends and put the correct antenna
length in the middle  with the feedline coming to the house will do fairly
well.
In addition, making a frame to hold the antenna and a spike to put it in the
ground when you want to use the telescope will work very nicely.
ARRL (the amateur radio people have a number of nice books on antenna design
that will help you with the problems of doing a nice antenna.
