The snot is everything that isn't the mirror! 8^)

You bring up a good point, Frank. A 6 inch mirror is pretty
easy and quick to work. And here we have some suggestions that are
going to make for a big increase in effort for this guy. I mean this
went from a simple question to ordering and buying bulk dental
plaster, and multiple tools, and more. What, no grinding machine to
construct?!

And at this point, you bring us all back to earth! Thank you
for the reality check. Making a 6 inch mirror is supposed to be easy.
This fellow has everything he needs to make a mirror, and we're
complicating the bejabbers out of the job.

Now of course, if a person really *wants* to futz around,
building multiple tools and buying lots of dental stone, for a mirror
that really doesn't require it, that is cool, but by that time, they
could just buy another blank, or re-use the now convex tool.

At this point, I would say to get that first mirror under
your belt, and then if the hobby suits you, start working a bigger
mirror. At that point, all our wisdom really *is* wisdom.
