That TI chip is darned hard to beat for photometry. The webcams are
generally useless for photometry because they are usually color. As
I have learned, there is a commercial B&W camera that is marketed
to general consumers that uses the 6 megapixel Kodak KAF series
B&W chips, which are photometric. I believe these even have B (bulb),
for long exposures. I was amazed by the fact that the complete cameras
were sold a couple years ago for about half the list price of the CCD
sensor alone. You may be able to find a used one if these are
discontinued.
